Oh non !!!! Pas David !!
I can\'t accept it ! Such a nice man ! With such a terrific humour. I
had the privilege to discuss with him very often in private, and each
time, it was, sincerely, a real pleasure. Particularly when we were
exchanging our Yahoo! experiences as moderators )
Please, don\'t be shocked if I put this smiley. I do know that he
would have appreciated it.
Can we be of some help ? Please let us know.
I think I (we all) have suddenly discovered that our ongoing
projects were so insignificant, even if very urgent.
I call all our members to respect a \"minute of silence\" (sorry, not
sure of the translation) tomorrow Thursday at 12:00 GMT. It means
that you stop every activity and have a thought for David, whatever
are your religion, political ideas or nationalities.
Thank you
P.S.: Sorry to use the \"admin\" header, but it is the only way to draw
your attention on an important fact, which is the least we can say
about David\'s death.

I\'m usually part of the \'silent crowd\', but always read David Orpin\'s contributions on different lists with interest, and regarded him as a very professional person from who there is so much to learn. Also, I always found his comments to be mature, sensitive and unbiased. Although I never had any direct contact with him, somehow one gets to know people from their comments and he\'ll be greatly missed.
Respectfully,
Angelica Portales

The translator community lost David Orpin as one of its most active member on the TCR-list. We all have profited of his engagement, even without having him known personally. I wish Angelika, his wife, and Fiona, his daughter, all the force they need to continue their daily life in this situation. It is surely harder to stay here, than to leave after having fullfilled all the earthly duties - and to continue life elsewhere...

I was so shocked to read about David\'s death today. I can\'t get over it. Everywhere I look now, I see messages and it just shows how involved he was in the translation community.

It really is a terrible shock.
I hope his family draws some strength from all these messages, here, on various mailing lists and on the condolences site. Our thoughts are with you.

This dreadful news leaves me with a deep feeling of loss.
I will be eternally grateful to David not just for his general professional contribution to our [translators\'] world, which was invaluable, but on a personal basis, much more so for introducing me to a partner I have been working with steadily for some 3 years now ... and who has, much more importantly, also been a strong spiritual support to me, without which I truly believe I would often not have been able to deal... See more This dreadful news leaves me with a deep feeling of loss.
I will be eternally grateful to David not just for his general professional contribution to our [translators\'] world, which was invaluable, but on a personal basis, much more so for introducing me to a partner I have been working with steadily for some 3 years now ... and who has, much more importantly, also been a strong spiritual support to me, without which I truly believe I would often not have been able to deal with serious life vicissitudes in these last few years. Because of this, I am convinced that in some senses I owe my survival to David.
I can only begin to imagine how devastated those closer to him, especially, of course, his wife and daughter, must feel.
My heart goes out to them and so do my fervent prayers.
