The rise of AI has created many opportunities, from facilitating healthcare diagnoses to automating routine tasks. So, if implemented right, AI has the potential to be a “democratizing” tool, however, it also raises profound ethical concerns. These arise from the potential AI systems have to embed biases, to create clones, deepfakes and impersonations, to threaten human rights and more. No, only a few big companies make money from it - and what does "democratizing" mean here? Oct 9, 2024

Is it improving political rights? Does it make a country, a region more democratic?

Here, they often call a billy club a "democratizer" Oct 9, 2024

Of course as used in democratic countries because who would want to democratize anyone in a non-democratic regime? With elections and all, but okay, I'd rather just admit I'm not in a democracy because it's more fun. I didn't understand the question at first, and the answers didn't give me enough clues. Then I thought it could somewhat democratize society by offering jobs to people who are not qualified to do them and resented that idea. Everyone knows most computer programming is now done by go... Then I thought it could somewhat democratize society by offering jobs to people who are not qualified to do them and resented that idea. Everyone knows most computer programming is now done by googling, and AI is all set to make that job much easier. Hence all the jokes about what modern programming is all about (I find it boring, which is why I'm not a programmer even though all employers want them and are willing to pay them very decent money). But now there's news about a ship that sank, and her captain was appointed in strict compliance with democratic principles as I understand them. Maybe I'm wrong, but will more ships be sinking? Here's an idea: AI bots should be allowed to vote!Collapse

Which way can a software tool be a democratizing tool? Oct 10, 2024

I can only try to get the meaning behind this question, before I can give an answer. According to Wikipedia, a democracy is a system of government in which state power is vested in the people or the general population of a state. A people could only have the real power, if it has access to true information and data, which has a big impact on his opinion and therefore on his decisions.

If a generative AI is not influenced by humans and helps to increase the amount of true information, this way it could also be a democratizing tool. But as tool, it could also be misused as the contrary of a democratizing tool.
