Since 1985 until the early 2000s I did employ another translator. She translated into French and worked as PM. Then, she decided to leave translation and I’ve been working alone, which in fact isn’t completely true as one of my daughters deals with the invoicing program and other stuff I’m not good at. Besides that, I work quite often with other two translators (both Prozians) reviewing each other’s work.
Happy new year to all of you!

Once I took on too much and gave the extra work to a colleague. I've also given some transcription work to others. However, I far prefer just to translate. I did some project management at the start of my career, but never really warmed to it.
Been there, done that. Three times. It could be quite traumatic.

I'm doing okay on my own. Especially now that I can choose which projects to take and which to leave, not having to work for my living anymore.
Sometimes I have a fellow translator review my translations into US English to ensure their quality. But that doesn't really count, does it?

I voted that I'm doing fine on my own, although there's one client who likes to pay for someone to proofread my work for the most important files, and I ask a friend to help out with that.
My status actually forbids me from employing someone or outsourcing work, and I'm fine with that because I would not like the hassle involved.

I do love working with other translators, I basically learned to become a good translator by proofreading good translators at the agency, and it's always enriching to see that others go about translating in different ways yet still produce good work (especially given the degree of creative flair required for the kind of texts I translate). ▲ Collapse | | | | Hasrina Munajat Malajsie Local time: 22:26 angličtina -> malajština + ... Yes I will employ a colleague if I my workloads are beyond my capacity. | | | | Muriel Vasconcellos (X) Spojené státy americké Local time: 07:26 španělština -> angličtina + ... | Yes, and it was a disaster | Feb 17, 2024 |
A colleague was visiting me and I offered her some of the work when I was overloaded. It was a disaster, because I was accountable for the outcome. I made a few corrections in her text, and she told my client. I never got a job from them again. | | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Have you ever considered employing a colleague due to a workload you cannot manage alone? | PerfectIt | Check translations faster for consistency, quality and style guide compliance
