A client engaged me for some transcreation work. The collaboration has gone swimmingly, the work itself is challenging, interesting, and seems to be on-going, so hooray!

I have not acquired any new regular clients over the last few years, although ones I may have last worked with a few years ago seem to be getting in touch.

A potential client contacted me in February through Proz with a small job (1,233 words, which I discovered later was a paid test). Though initially I thought this was a one-off, it was followed by two larger projects in March and June (29,285 words + 51,330) and since then they have been sending me more work (mostly smaller jobs). Projects are interesting on subjects I care about, well paid and on time. Can’t ask for anything more!

I had 4 new clients last month (doesn't happen usually), but it's too early to say whether any of them will become regular or recurring.

The same here (even five), but no recurring assignments, yet. The latest recurring client is a direct client who contact me in the summer and now reverted for the third time

I'm afraid I don't recall, probably sometime last year.

The other week some bloke phoned me (I prefer being contacted by email) asking about translating a patent. I asked to see the document first before making any commitment, and he said he would call back the next day, but he didn't. That's about as near as it gets for the past year or so. However, I pretty much have a full roster of regular clients anyway - some more regular than others - one of whom just turned up today telling

Funny question Oct 8, 2020

I get new clients every month or so. However, to be able to classify them as "a client offering regular work", we have to wait at least a few months and see if they will send more jobs reegularly or not.
I marked the option "within the last 30 days", but I cannot tell if these new clients will be regular or once-in-a-lifetime.

OK. I get your point but you did have the option of Other. I have had clients in the past who started working with me and then immediately began sending work every day or so. That would make them regular clients. The real point of the question was to find out how often translators acquire new clients.

I have a very few regular clients, and then there are those I call occasional clients. I am picky, however, as I am now only working part time.

One of my very earliest clients, from Belgium, still sends an enquiry about every other year, but she is no longer a regular as she once was. (This is largely because she seems to specialise more in finance than she used to, and I prefer to leave that to specialists unless it is a press release or other text for the general public.)

Others do not often need translation from Scandinavian languages, but I have had a large number of clients over the years who sent a single job or a small handful of connected jobs, and then turned up again at long intervals. These are typically small agencies.

Another group are Danish colleagues who work with direct clients, and sometimes need a translation frok Danish into English, not the other way round. I have worked very happily with several, but they are not really regular clients.

It is probably several years since I acquired a new regular client.

Waiting for miracle Oct 12, 2020

I don't have any regular clients yet. However, I am waiting this happen to me Maybe it's because my profile isn't full member. I regularly send email or contact any clients that post their job here. Still waiting for a good news from one of them.

But that doesn't happen every year.
I have yet to see whether a recent customer acquired in August will send me more work (sending work after passing a paid test is not my idea of a returning client).

Not sure what's difficult to understand in the question.

Philippe

I have a few regular clients who appoint me through some agencies. Most of them are occasional clients.
