Bio

abaadfunkjhttyhpn1ix.jpgMy name is David, I’m a native English speaker
from the United Kingdom. I've been working with the Chinese language since 2004
as a student, teacher and researcher. But I’ve been working with computer games
since 1990 when my family bought our first Sega Mega Drive.

I offer translations from Chinese into English as
well as English proofreading, post editing and editing services. I really enjoy working with machines, sometimes they produce truly amazing translations, sometimes they produce some very questionable results, but they generally save everyone time which also saves everyone money.

As a native English speaker with many years of living and working in Chinese speaking environments, I will deliver a great quality English language translation.

Computer Games & Computers

I really love playing video games. I’ve been
playing them since I was a kid and have plenty of experience with a wide
variety of games from multiple genres (RPGs, strategy, horror and first person
shooter). Making Chinese games make sense in English is lots of fun and I
really enjoy the challenge of translating complex Chinese game stories into
English.

Avoid this kind of terrible English and make sure that your gamers have a fun gaming experience that makes them want more rather than turning your game into a laughing stock...

Legal, Business & Financial Experience

I have a solid foundation working with Chinese
legal documents as in 2018 I worked as a due diligence data miner researching
Chinese companies public record information (legal documents, news articles,
public access business registries etc) to create English language profiles for
third party clients. This included reading government business registries, annual
business reports, share information and news articles for evidence of
malpractice such as corruption, bribery, embezzlement, inaccurate or misleading
financial statements and many more. Information was primarily sourced from Chinese
language sources before being summarized into English.

Post Editing, Editing and Proof Reading

Since 2017 I have been successfully writing and self-publishing
Mills & Boon style romance under several pennames on Amazon. This side
project has honed my writing skills and given me the opportunity to work with
other writers in the capacity of editor and proof reader. I have a keen eye for
detail and can quickly spot mistakes and unnatural sounding English. In this
capacity I have also become highly competent at writing to market.

History with Chinese Language

In 2008 I graduated from the University of
Edinburgh with a 2:1 in Chinese studies and a distinction in spoken Chinese. I
received an A for Chinese to English translation under the prestigious Chinese
to English translator Esther Tyldesley.

Until 2018 I was teaching Chinese as a
professional language teacher in the UK and have a deep understanding of how
the language works and the many cultural differences between the English and
Chinese speaking world. I currently live and work in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan.
