Source text - English As many of you know, over the last few months I have been thinking hard about my plans for 2008. Running for the presidency is a profound decision - a decision no one should make on the basis of media hype or personal ambition alone - and so before I committed myself and my family to this race, I wanted to be sure that this was right for us and, more importantly, right for the country.
I certainly didn't expect to find myself in this position a year ago. But as I've spoken to many of you in my travels across the states these past months; as I've read your emails and read your letters; I've been struck by how hungry we all are for a different kind of politics.
Translation - Persian (Farsi) همان‌گونه که بسیاری از شما اطلاع دارید، من در طول چند ماه اخیر روی برنامه‌هایم برای سال 2008 کار می‌کردم. ثبت‌نام برای ریاست جمهوری، تصمیم مهمی‌ست – تصمیمی که نباید بر پایه‌ی تبلیغات رسانه‌ها یا جاه‌طلبی شخصی اتخاذ شود – و پیش از اینکه خود و خانواده‌ام را متعهد به این مهم بکنم، باید اطمینان حاصل می‌کردم که تصمیم درستی برای خودمان و برای کشور خواهد بود.

Source text - Persian (Farsi) پس از پایان جنگ سرد، دست شورای امنیت در وتو باز شد. در پنجاه سال اول فعالیت شورای امنیت، وتو برای 244 بار مورد استفاده قرار گرفت. برای ده سال بعد، وتو تنها در 13 مورد به کار گرفته شد. این استقلال، نه تنها باعث انجام تصویب ها و اقدامات بیشتری شد بلکه سبب مشاهده اعمال جدیدی از جانب شورای امنیت سازمان ملل متحد نیز گردید. این اعمال شامل: استرداد مظنونین تروریستی، تاسیس دادگاه های بین المللی، ایجاد کمیته ای برای تعیین مرزهای بین المللی، تاسیس مکانی امن به دور از هر گونه حمله ی نظامی و دیگر اعمال خصمانه، تاسیس یک منطقه ی پرواز ممنوع نظامی، و بلوکه کردن اموال و دارایی های افراد مظنون به تروریسم می شد.
Translation - English After the cold war was over, the Security Council resorted to veto more freely. The Council had exercised 244 vetoes during the first fifty years of its operation. In the following 10 years, only 13 cases of veto were carried. This independency not only lead to more actions and enactments, but the Council also exhibited new actions, including the extradition of the terrorism suspects, the establishment of international courts, forming a committee for determining international borders, establishing a safe area away from any kind of military attack or other hostile acts, establishing a no-flight military zone, and blocking the assets and properties of the terrorism suspects.
