Buenos días a todos y todas,

Estoy traduciendo un informe sobre el impacto de la actual crisis sanitaria en el sector de la construcción.
Tengo un problema con "up from" en la frase siguiente:

"According to the US Department of Labor, jobless claims for unemployment benefits in the US climbed to 6.66 million for the week ending April 4th, up from 6.87 million in the previous week, the third week in a row of unprecedented levels of jobless claims, as the coronavirus pandemic forced businesses, cities and entire states throughout the US to shut down."

Tengo entendido que "up from" significaría "superando a..." respecto a la cifra anterior, pero entonces ya no me
cuadran los números... ¿alguien ve otra posibilidad o es que me he estancado y ya no lo veo claro?
