Hello everyone BaccS was bought by SDL. This means two things: the price for the desktop version jumps from USD 120 (with free upgrades for 3 years) to USD 300 (no free upgrades), and the price of the web version jumps from USD 15 per month to USD 5000 (yes, three zeros). For the time being, BaccS will continue to be developed by its original developer. Your thoughts? Samuel | | | Endre Both Germany Local time: 13:03 English to German
Congratulations to the developer. I hope they have enough financial resources now to start a new endeavour. (I might not be as sanguine if I were a user of the software.) | | | ahartje Portugal Local time: 12:03 Member (2006) German to Portuguese + ...
All the best to Yauhen. He did a great job, with excellent support. But I am afraid this change will harm the quality and functionality of this extraordinary tool. | | | Andriy Yasharov Ukraine Local time: 14:03 Member (2008) English to Russian + ... Any alternatives? | May 23, 2019 |
Can Protemos be an alternative to BaccS? There's a comparison of the two programs: baccs vs protemos | |

Andriy Yasharov wrote: Can Protemos be an alternative to BaccS? I see no reason to jump ship just because the price has been upped and the editorial policy is out of the hands of the original developer. All desktop licences are perpetual, so as long as the program does what you want it to do, I don't think there's a need to worry. | | | Lincoln Hui Hong Kong Local time: 19:03 Member Chinese to English + ...

Regarding jumping ship... I definitely won't be anytime soon as I don't think there is another program that does what BaccS can do, as well. And what also counts for a lot if the fact that Eugene is such a cool guy, and obviously very passionate about what he does. In my book that counts for a hell of a lot, and is something very much lacking in most of the other comparable tools. And Freelance version is FREE, you do not need any licence for it.

Thank you, Samuel, Michael, ahartje, Endre Both, all who supported these years! Samuel, that information about web version price isn't very clear. There are a lot of factors, including the one that web version is currently offered only as on-premise solution. Not hosted one. And special 'thank you' to Michael, who provided a lot of support even before starting to use BaccS. It's a honor to know you! But I am afraid this change will harm the quality and functionality of this extraordinary tool. Anke, I will be very short here: this will never happen. Time will show Very first example of harming quality: increased development speed, Japanese localization, all other localized languages fully updated, new community, new support team, a lot of feedback and new plans. That comparison on capterra is not correct when the price is concerned. Yes, that page doesn't provide even basic comparison, not saying about more detailed. Doesn't matter if it's about prices or functionality. | | | John Fossey Canada Local time: 07:03 Member (2008) French to English + ... Lite version a Studio plug-in? | May 29, 2019 |
Am I correct in understanding that the Lite version is only a plugin to SDL Trados Studio, not a freestanding application?
