ProZ.com Powwows

Powwows are informal get-togethers of groups of ProZ.com users living in close proximity. The events are organized by local translators, for local translators.

International Powwow Day to celebrate Translator's Day
September 28-30

A great event took place around the world on the weekend of Translator's Day--September 28, 29 and 30, 2007. In cities everywhere, translators met to celebrate their profession at a series of ProZ.com powwows. Collectively, this was the largest worldwide gathering of translators ever! Messages were exchanged from powwow to powwow, offering a chance to say Hi! to other colleagues around the world and laying the foundations for a new tradition at ProZ.com.

Angio Garbarino says: Sun, 14 October

We had a wonderful day, in Alessandria even if Italian was the official language of the powwow, four other countries other than Italy were represented: France, England, Turjey and Romania, that was really interesting and nice. Dear Romina you really did a huge and terrific job. Thanks a lot and I hope to have a chance for repeating this wonderful experience next year. I will keep this page like a treasure of mine! Unforgettable! Angioletta (Angio)

Cordial thanks, Romina, for the excellent organization of the unforgettable international semi-virtual festival of translators! My sincere thanks to all of you for participating in it! And, of course, a bunch of thanks to ProZ.com for the wonderful Translation Workplace!
Fabio Descalzi says: Thu, 11 October

In Montevideo, we had a lot of fun meeting nice people from three countries: Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil. Thanks to Marcela's laptop we were able to connect with La Plata (the people were fascinated to see Romina's image!), Buenos Aires (Andrea's greeting), Vancouver (Lota here, and Mariana there, two Chilean-born ladies, exchanged greetings via Skype!) and even Lyon. A fascinating experience. People longing so much for gathering - here and far away at the same time. Thanks Romina for your wonderful organization. Thanks to everybody (old and new ProZians alike) for joining. Thanks Lota, Nadia and Paulo for coming to Uruguay especially for this happening. Absolutely unforgettable!
Niraja Nanjundan says: Thu, 11 October

We had a good powwow at New Delhi and hope that there will be many more such events in future. Thanks for all your support, Romina!

Sadly I was forced to cancel my powwow because of a lack of participants but I was able to chat to other powwows on Skype anyway. I had a great time and met some lovely people. Thanks, Romina, for all your hard work. I certainly hope that this will become a ProZ.com tradition! I look forwards to drinking some virtual mate again with you soon ;-) All the best to everyone I met and see you soon!
Pham Huu Phuoc says: Thu, 11 October

It's really a good job, Rominaz
Ernestas Lomsargis says: Thu, 11 October

Nice page and nice event! First, we had a connection with Romina and her colleague. Thanks, Romina, for all you did for international ProZ community! Then we connected to Lindau, Germany. The sound was like from drowning submarine – bubbling or smth. like that. We asked, maybe our German colleagues need help in (or under) some lake or smth. :-) In any way it was fun to see each other and at least to try to talk to each other. We also had connection with our French colleague. As Skype connection is not the same as normal audio/video transmission yet, we could only understand that she was at her home after powwow in Strasbourg. It was nice to exchange some words! Then, we had a rather good audio connection with distant Uruguay. Fabio was the man on the other end of wire. He could also see us. We had quiet a lengthy discussion. Fabio was very communicative, we really enjoyed talking with him. Regards, Fabio! Lithuanian ProZ community thinks that international powwow day was a total success and try to imagine how advanced will be ITD next year. ;-) All the best to all colleagues from Lithuania!

Although not connected to any other Powwows, we had a wonderful time at our meeting in London.
